Cuomo: 'Shame on us' if Weiner elected NYC mayor

Source: The Hill

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Thursday blasted former Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-N.Y.) now-official New York City mayoral candidacy, telling reporters "shame on us" if the disgraced lawmaker were to be elected.

Weiner was forced to resign in 2011 after images of him in various states of undress surfaced. The New York lawmaker sent the images via Twitter to women he met online.

But in recent months, he's looked to rehabilitate his image with a series of interviews and public appearances. On Tuesday, he announced in a video posted to YouTube that he was running for mayor.

In that video, Weiner acknowledges his past indiscretions.

I don't give a shit about marital infidelity UNLESS it's being conducted by a self-professed moral paragon (e.g., Newt Gingrich).

Otherwise, I hate being lied to by politicians, on substantive matters of public policy.

When did Anthony Wiener do that?

I've taken a different approach and considered as many variables as I can to assess the level of those lies.

I've had to compartmentalize them on the basis of whether or not they've impacted me, negatively or positively.

Anthony Weiner's lies have had zero impact on me. Clarence Thomas' lies has hurt me in my personal life, and Weiner's dogged pursuit of exposing the lies of Clarence Thomas and those of his wife was a tremendous public service to this country on many levels. That's why he was viciously taken down by moneyed fascists and abandoned by powerful Democrats.

The powerful help the powerful.

Anyway, if Huma can forgive him - she, who was most impacted by this all - why shouldn't New Yorkers?

Gay Marriage, the NY SAFE Act, property tax cap, consecutive balanced and ON TIME budgets for the first time in my life... He did more in the first six months than Elliot did in his entire term. Name one Democrat who could get even upstate GOP members to back a gun control package that made the 1994 AWB look like the NRA platform.

Oh, and he was a good AG. You tell a company you're calling Eric Schneiderman, you don't get half the response as you did when you could say you were calling Andrew Cuomo.

He's a better governor than his old man, better than George Pataki, better than Elliot, better than Mr. Paterson (who I think got a bad rap... he actually did quite a bit for this state that made him unpopular, but got the job done)...

Weiner's accomplishments include... increasing visas for foreign fashion models?

In particular Lee and Craig deserve condemnation for their anti-gay votes.

And regarding Sanford, at least Wiener isn't going the "awesome God of second chances" route!!! *gag*

I don't recall Wiener ever putting himself out in public as some kind of moral paragon, criticizing others who live differently (e.g., homosexuals). He doesn't deserve to be grouped with those nasty hypocrites.

One expects that sort of thing out of anybody in power. The problem is just how lame a lie it was and how long he persisted in that ridiculous story.

It is about judgment. And judgment is actually relevant to a person's fitness for an office such as Mayor of NY.

The man should not be in public life. He made some contributions and he also showed himself unfit for office. That's not the end of the world. He can make a nice life for himself in the private sector. As a Democrat, the last thing I want is a poster boy like that being in the news every day.
