Hutaree domestic terror trial begins in Michigan
DETROIT - The government says they're homegrown terrorists who plotted to kill police officers with bombs and guns.
Their defense lawyers say they're tough-talking, good ol' boys who had no real plans to harm anyone.
Today, two years after federal agents arrested nine people suspected to be Hutaree militia members in separate raids in Michigan and Indiana, the highly anticipated terrorism trial begins here in federal court.
All the suspects are charged with seditious conspiracy, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction and possession of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. If convicted, they could face life in prison.

(12,008 posts)I'm sure they discussed it, but I also imagine they would have never even gotten to the point where they could go through with it. The world is chock-full of people like this. On the one hand I think they're potentially dangerous and should maybe be locked up, but on the other hand, if they were never really going to carry this out, I'm afraid we're prosecuting them for thought-crimes.

(26,216 posts)whatever will we do without their little "militia" to protect us.
Just saw the defense is going with the 'they were preparing for the antiChrist' defense.

(4,524 posts)The remaining "Hutaree" idiots should look to their left, and then to their right - both people are undercover agents.
Also funny is the fact that, despite their insistence that "Hutaree" means warriors, or something like that (I forget), it's a completely made up word. They sound like a cult.
