Obama campaign sets up 'Truth Team'
President Obama's re-election team is seeking help from Internet and on-the-ground backers to spread the word about Obama's record in office, and to bash his Republican critics.
The purpose of the "Truth Team" is to "promote the President's achievements, respond to attacks on his record and hold the eventual Republican nominee accountable," said the announcement from the Obama re-election team.
The overall website -- BarackObama.com/TruthTeam -- includes three specialty websites: KeepingHisWord.com (devoted to Obama's record), KeepingGOPHonest.com (attacking Republicans), and AttackWatch.com (responding to critical GOP ads).
"The sites also contain tools for sharing materials via Facebook, Twitter and email, and empowers supporters to take further action by volunteering, writing letters to the editor, sending postcards to undecided voters with information about the President's record, and more," said the Obama announcement.

Wouldn't 'KeepingGOPHonest' just return a 404?

(674 posts)and it's tragic that the media doesn't do their share of it.
It will be nice to have a source like this, as an alternative to Snopes, to respond to those right wing emails some of us get from wayward family members or friends. Maybe they'll poke around the site and learn something about the lies they've been duped into accepting.

(1,587 posts)These people aren't interested in the truth. Many times I've provided the real story to the people who spread
this crap and it makes no difference to them.

(674 posts)sad isn't it?
(one thing though, all those republican bs chain emails use very large text. Now we have a debunking site with EVEN LARGER text! Maybe that will win some converts.)

(1,515 posts)There's always been lying in politics, but so much of the Fourth Estate gave up their responsibility of holding people accountable years ago. The Republicans know this (and in part make it happen). But they are also excellent at lying and framing the debate in ways that Dems won't and don't.
And I like "Truth Team" as a name. Simple, concise.

(46,585 posts)The revisionist history spewed by Rs is jaw-dropping. My concern is that repeating it over and over again as they do on Faux News 24/7 somehow magically becomes "fact" in their pointy little heads.

(9,600 posts)The economy didn't just crash under a Republican president, it crashed under Republican policies. It crashed with low taxes. It crashed with deregulated markets. It crashed with huge restrictions on union activity. It crashed with massive cuts in environmental regulations. It crashed with lowered trade barriers. It crashed with big fat Pentagon spending.

(2,262 posts)The Republicans have been employing classic military propaganda techniques for years: from about 1978, Ronald Reagan - a radio and TV personality, who literally worked for Army propaganda in WWII, and knew the secrets- began to employ the basic techniques. Especially: a few simple phrases/"talking points," repeated endlessly, hypnotically. Rush Limbaugh from 1983 especially used endless repetation to turn millions into what he himself called "ditto heads." While thousands of right-wing organizations developed a vast radid-response propaganda resource network; working 24/7 to generate "talking points" on any given subject, within three or four hours of the emergence of any new subject matter.
Amazingly, democrats did not organize to effectively deal with this new and improved propaganda machine, until the 2008 Obama campaign; with this same office.
Fortuntely however? They've begun to recognize the problem, and address it effectively at last. With officies like this one.
