http://www.omaha.com/article/20120219/NEWS01/120218906

DECORAH — The online world is flocking again to see the newest egg laid by a famous northeast Iowa eagle family.

The renowned Decorah eagle family welcomed the egg into the world Friday night.

The feathered family has gained international attention because of an Internet nest-cam set up by the Raptor Resource Project. The website that allows people to watch has been viewed nearly 217 million times.

They're addictive! I'm going to try not to watch so often this year. Last year I even painted two pictures of the Dad. Going to put them in an art show this April.

I love the eagle family. Last year I got all ferklempt watching them spread their wings over their chicks while the weather raged around them. I went waaaay off into metaphors about what America should be doing for its children and how the best role of a government is to love us and protect us and to help us fly high...total heart-clench goofy patriotic idealistic slop.

And I'm looking forward to doing it all over again!

I watched these guys last year and it was amazing. I just tuned in again and one of the parents was sitting on the egg and then just flew off. I wonder if it's normal to leave an egg unprotected like that.

We got to see them in person last year, and probably will go again this year. We live just 20 miles from the nest.

Looks very cold, but in fact should keep her warm.

But eagle experts say the birds are well used to the cold, so I just have to put my concerns aside and hope they're right. I do worry a bit about the eggs, though, although I recall that in similar conditions last year, they all came through okay, even though it looked dismal.
