Boko Haram attacks Muslims and kids, puzzling everyone

Africa watchers remained baffled a day after local officials in Nigeria said that 44 Muslims were massacred as they prayed in a mosque by the radical Islamist Boko Haram group. Some 12 other persons were killed nearby.

The attack on the mosque took place in the north, amid a military crackdown in that region launched in May by President Goodluck Jonathan.

As with the recent massacre of dozens of schoolchildren in July, also claimed by Boko Haram, the mosque attack came packaged with a video by Abubakar Shekau, the ostensible leader.

Shekau claimed his forces are preparing for global jihad and he challenged a variety of heads of state, including Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming that he was tougher than any of them.

The Boko Haram in Nigeria behave the same way. They kill Christians but if they cant find Christians, they will kill Muslims. Remember, their main problem is technology and "western" education. I wouldn't the surprised if they eat human meat just like their counterparts in Syria but haven't put it on tape yet.

5. Boko Haram, like the

other extremist groups, considers any Muslim who doesn't embrace their fanatically puritanical interpretation of Islam as an "apostate" or "disbeliever".

I have good friends in Istanbul, whom I would certainly consider decent Muslims, who've had their lives threatened by fanatics for being insufficiently "devout"; for not wearing the hijab, and for listening to Western music. A couple of them were even on a hit list - no joke.

Boko Haram isn't exactly known for their kind and inclusive attitude towards anyone, Muslim or not, who doesn't share their views. They're out there even by the standards of militant Islamists.
