Lonegan: National Republicans Support My Special Election Campaign
Source: Roll Call
Lonegan faces an uphill climb in the Oct. 16 special election against the Democratic nominee, Newark Mayor Cory Booker. A Republican has not won a New Jersey Senate seat in 40 years, and President Barack Obama carried the state with 58 percent in 2012.
On Wednesday, Lonegan told WOR Radio that he is expecting really the whole NRSC and RNC to be focusing on this race.
The entire Republican Party is organized behind my campaign, Lonegan, a legally blind conservative activist, said on The John Gambling Show.

This will be a bellweather for the Republicans in 2014: in a race they are doomed to lose by 20+ points, can they seperate themselves from a Tea Party kook as bad as Todd Akin or Christine O'Donnell, or will they feel compelled to support Lonegan for fear of angering the GOP base?

(128,517 posts)The "GOP base" in Jersey is not like this loon thankfully. IMHO, they will probably sit it out until the 2014 redux election when they may try to find someone else for their side.
And now that Clear Channel owns WOR, I wonder how long Gambling is going to be there before they boot him off in favor of cheap RW drivel for programming (his multi-generational family ties to the station aside)? In any case, I fear and expect that Joan will get the boot, but maybe the locals would fight that.
