NBC Says Hillary Clinton Miniseries May Never Go To Production

Following backlash from the Republican National Committee, NBC expressed doubts theHillary Clinton miniseries will ever go to production.
"The Hillary Clinton movie has not been ordered to production, only a script is being written at this time," NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt told Deadline in a statement. "It is 'in development', the first stage of any television series or movie, many of which never go to production. Speculation, demands, and declarations pertaining to something that isn't created or produced yet seem premature."
Greenblatt's statement comes shortly after the Republican National Committee decided to block NBC access to GOP primary debates during the next presidential election. "As an American company, you have every right to air programming of your choice. But as American citizens, certainly you recognize why many are astounded by your actions, which appear to be a major network's thinly veiled attempt at putting a thumb on the scales of the 2016 election," RNC chairman Reince Priebus wrote in letters sent Greenblatt and Jeff Zucker, president of CNN, which also has a Hillary Clinton project in the works.
On Friday, negotiations fell apart for Fox Television Studios to produce NBC's Clinton miniseries because of deal points. Diane Lane was attached to star in the project, to be written and directed by Frozen River's Courtney Hunt.

It's pretty certain that CNN, which has less spine than any other TV "news" outlet, will put the kibosh on any Hillary Clinton show they may be contemplating.
Meanwhile you can expect a dozen specials proving that Benghazi was the worst thing that ever happened anywhere in the world ever. And they won't all be on Fox either.

(100,062 posts)The republicans are legally allowed to produce an anti Hillary [strikethru]campaign ad[/strikethru3] "documentary" called "Hillary: The Movie", sued to get it aired, took the case all the way to the Supreme Court and overturned 100 years of campaign finance laws in the process. But someone tries to produce a pro Hillary piece? Fuck that!!

(59,501 posts)At the time, McCain, like Hillary now, was a leading candidate of his party. In addition, that film was written based on HIS book and was clearly designed to cement his image as a war hero. It is doubful that the HRC would be anywhere near as one sided as this.
Do you remember the outrage? I don't. Any attempt to keep it off the air? None that I know of. Reaction -- it was nominated for emmys!

I see no problem with a network running a unbiased and fair documentary about a candidate that investigates both the good that the candidate has accomplished as well as any possible missteps or scandals in the candidate's past.
A miniseries or movie is more appropriate for a dead politician. Prior to that point, I consider it propaganda from one side or the other.
Dead, or clearly retired and never campaigning for themselves again. I'd have no problems with NBC doing a Jimmy Carter biopic, for example.

I cannot think of a single regular program that we watch on NBC. Even the local affiliate is sinking.

(46,317 posts)I say no.
It would be rightly seen as a pro-Hillary campaign ad, and if the facts were distorted, (which in a TV-movie or miniseries they would be,) the right-wingers would be jumping all over "the liberal media" giving them an excuse to ignore their own bullshit TV movies like "The Road To 9-11."

(22,271 posts)will they also run "bios" for the other PRIMARY candidates? Nah, didn't think so. I hate censorship and would never advocate for it BUT, this corporate interference 2-1/2 years before the first primary vote is cast is bullshit and it's EXACTLY what I've been saying all along about the primary process. That it's rigged from the beginning and this is a prime example.

Makes me wonder what they'd do if NBC floated an Elizabeth Warren documentary. Probably march on their HQ with pitchforks, lolol.

(338 posts)I recall that in the early '90s NBC series "SeaQuest DSV," set in the second decade of the 21st Century, mention in one episode was made of an American naval vessel, "the USS Hillary Clinton." No one in Republican leadership at the time expressed offense at this. The series, not a big hit, is nevertheless available on disc so I suppose that if Prince Reince were ever to notice the reference, he'd put NBC on double-secret probation.
