Lancaster Couple Awarded $4M in Deputies' Raid Shooting

Source: NBC Los Angeles

A Lancaster couple was awarded more than $4 million by a Los Angeles federal judge Tuesday for a raid by sheriff's deputies that caused a man to have his leg amputated.

Angel Mendez and his wife accused the deputies - who did not have a search warrant in their search for a wanted parolee - of excessive force and federal civil rights violations in their lawsuit filed against Los Angeles County.

The couple claims they were sound asleep around noon that day in October 2010 when sheriff's Deputies Christopher Conley and Jennifer Pederson busted into their wooden shack unnannounced.

strikes again.

whats sad is that the money doest come out of the pockets of the department, they feel none of the pain. its all on the backs of taxpayers. cops will never change behavior that way.

wouldn't the couple be in a North Korea style brig somewhere instead of getting four million for their injuries and suffering?

In some cases, some people can get some justice for their abuse at the hands of the state. We're not quite at North Korea level yet, although it is something to aspire to.

On the other hand, our total surveillance state is probably more efficient than theirs. So there.

After all there have been ZERO Al Qaeda attacks under both Bush and Obama.

They couldn't catch the Pressure Cooker guys with their black powder and match fuse bombs, but I'm sure that will be the last of those kinds of amateur attacks. Just listen to any Republican or Democratic spokesman about the great job of surveillance that is being done to catch these anarchist nut jobs !!

The 9/11 attacks happened during the Bush (mis)Admistration. Maybe it is snark on your part.

I meant since Sept 11, 2001. The surveillance wasn't up to snuff before then.

They fucking told bush that terrorists were planning something.
He ignored terror threats to get "his war" then scared people with that phony color chart.
You sure you're in the right place?

There are somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 people living in camps (those are low estimates) in North Korea. People eat rats and snitch on each other to get food.

While things have gotten worse in the US, they are NOTHING like North Korea.
