Voting rights, Economic Fairness among marchers' aims as they mark 1963 March on Washington

Source: Associated Press

On Friday, a coalition of black leaders issued what they said is the 21st century agenda for the nation as it marks the watershed civil rights event that helped bring about the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The 1963 march drew some 250,000 to the National Mall and ushered in the idea of massive, nonviolent demonstrations.

The leaders named economic parity, equity in education, voting rights, health care access and criminal justice reform as national policy priorities.

National Urban League President Marc Morial said the agenda was "by no means a complete agenda" but one that can strengthen the unity among the coalition's members and a way to go forward in a new civil rights movement.

This isn't just remembering there is a real civil and economic struggle going on here this is more important than any Gun control or Ed Snowden this is a deciding factor in the fate of the United States.

But yeah I was a little rash to say that there wasn't any topics on here. Sorry about that.

but in the programatic application you have got to decide what takes precedence. It's a question of who are you fighting for the petty issues of the petite bourgeoisie or the impoverished masses of people who need immediate attention?

It is also a question of which requires the least amount of forcing to take action. You could get millions out to support economic and civil rights but once you introduce petty issues like gun control or privacy you are going to split people and risk the most important thing. It isn't selling out, it is a concept called mass traction. Once you have taken action on the things people can all agree on and fight for together then you have got to focus on the other lesser issues and assume that the improved economic and civil environment will split less people.

It comes from the fight for all people and understanding that things that involve "guns God or gays" are actually a machination of the Republican Southern Strategy developed by stategist Lee Atwater. They wanted to shift the political overton window to cultural populism to win the racist south and at the same time the Democrats would be undermined and eventually would have to appeal to the cultural anti-gun, anti-religion and pro-gay arena while selling out on economic populism.

So essentially we have to be economic and civil populists now, not cultural populists. Economic and Civil truth is self-evident everywhere and anytime while culture holds only a relativity that is a poor substitute.
