National tax cut battle turns intense in Missouri
By DAVID A. LIEB, Associated Press | August 27, 2013 | Updated: August 27, 2013 2:44am

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Millions of dollars spent broadcasting ads. Alarming fliers and phone calls targeting homes. Politicians barnstorming from one press conference to the next.

By most measures, Missouri appears in the midst of another high-stakes election — except there is nothing on the ballot this year.

The massive campaign is meant to persuade — or dissuade — a few wavering Missouri lawmakers who will decide in September whether to override the governor's veto of the state's first income tax cut in nearly a century.

The Missouri battle is one of the most the intense yet in what has become a nationwide offensive by conservatives in state capitols to slice the income taxes that for decades have formed the financial foundation for government services ranging from public schools to prisons. They contend the tax cuts are the path to economic prosperity. Others forecast financial ruin.

with e-coli and other pathogens thanks to minimal enforcement of Clean Water Act laws.
I should know, I used to be in charge of some of the inspectors. The system in MO is rigged to ensure very few municipalities or small operators are ever prosecuted.
This has also contributed to urban sprawl. Here's how it goes...
Over 3 acres, septic tank, can't be inspected unless a neighbor complains.
Developers creating a subdivision can throw together a "lagoon" that is then turned over to the HOA, who is clueless about how to maintain. Eventually it deteriorates and the HOA is faced with $100k in upgrades which just restart the problem.
And the sludge from the lagoons? Pumped onto adjacent farmland.

Have fun on your next "float trip" in MO.

You wanna get people excited about the income tax? please leave prisons out of it. I could think of a couple more important govt functions starting with P can take the place of prisons in that sentence.

You could have said pensions or parks. Makes you wonder if police batons had already been taken, all I am saying is that is that prison is not something that in endearing to general public.
