Al Qaeda affiliate urges attacks on Egyptian army

One of al Qaeda-linked most militant affiliates has called on Egyptians to take up arms against their army, saying a bloody crackdown on Islamist protesters showed peaceful methods were futile, according to an Internet statement posted on Saturday.

"There is nothing more right in God's religion (Islam) than those who speak of the infidelity, reneging on Islam and abandonment of religion, and call for the necessity to fight these armies, foremost of which is the Egyptian army," said Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, spokesman for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to the Arabic recording.
"The Egyptian army is part and a mere copy of these armies which are seeking in a deadly effort to prevent God's laws from being adopted and trying hard to consecrate the principles of secularism and man-made laws," he said.

Adnani lashed out at the Brotherhood and the smaller, Salafist al-Nour party, saying they have been co-opted to non-violence and what he called the futile secular approach to power through elections and democracy, which he said had left Muslim Brotherhood members either in jail, dead or fugitives.

Fortunately, the majority in Eqypt do not support the Muslim Brotherhood.

(3,093 posts)It is most interesting to watch the militant Islamists so thoroughly criticize the democrats for the abysmal aftermath of their performance, "which he said had left Muslim Brotherhood members either in jail, dead or fugitives". Given the transpiring of events, this particular criticism is hard to refute... say what one will about the other aspects of the programme of the aforementioned.

(90,061 posts)life offers. The MB did not cover themselves in glory, they started out assertive and then slipped over into bullying/tyrannical. These guys just don't seem to understand that in a democracy you have to convince people to do what you want. You can't just kill everybody that disagrees with you and build your utopia immediately, we don't overlook that sort of thing any more. Much of Uncle Sugar's troubles stem from that same misunderstanding.
But it's a pity, Egypt deserved better.

The Muslim Brotherhood may be "intransigent boors," but Sisi is a mass murderer.
While some people were killed in chaotic street demonstrations during Morsi's presidency, the Brotherhood certainly did not try to kill everybody who disagreed with them. Unlike the military junta that now runs Egypt.
