Israel conducts missile test in Mediterranean

Source: USA TODAY

JERUSALEM — Tensions over Syria ratcheted up a notch on Tuesday after Russia's Defense Ministry said it detected traces of ballistic "objects" — now claimed by Israel — launched from an area in the central Mediterranean and moving in an easterly direction.

After some initial confusion over who was responsible, the Israeli military said it was behind the launch, saying it was carrying out a joint missile test with the United States.

Israel's Defense Ministry said in a statement the test of its "new version of the Sparrow target missile" was "successful." The Sparrow is an anti-missile system developed by the Israeli firm Rafael in conjunction with Boeing.

However, it was not immediately clear to what extent the U.S. was involved in the missile test. Earlier, CBS News tweeted that a U.S. official confirmed that American ships or planes were not involved in the missile launches.

the country that has been threatened to be retaliated against if the US hits Syria test their stuff out? They should just sit quietly with their thumbs up their asses and wait for the scuds to fall. I mean it's not like everyone is giving an opinion, I mean except for France, UK, Germany.... According to this board, it's Israel that is the problem.

Russia, China, Iran et al are getting ready, if they already were not.

USA/Israel firing a "test" so close, and TOWARDS the most volatile State in the World at the moment,

is just plain fracking stupid - unless of course,

THEY WANT WAR!

nawww . . .

can't be.

Anything they do is to not give the appearance of being walked on and to look tough.

why would china want a war with the economy that buys all its cheap crap ?

its not in either of their economic interests.

im sure they'll whine and stomp their feet, that's expected, but itll never come to blows.

If Russia and China didn't have nukes, USA would already be in there like a dirty shirt.

USA is slowly invading the whole Continent - not satisfied with living peacefully on it's own Continent.

Maybe not now, but sooner or later, there's gonna be one hell of a War.

USA keeps pushing it's own buttons, Europe, Middle East and Asia are gonna push theirs.

China does not "want" war - but they are more than capable of putting a huge dent in the USA's war-machine, as is Russia.

USA is messing around in someone else's backyard - they will only take so much.

Russia supplies much of the energy needs for China - mess with Russia, you mess with China.

Syria, although it has no oil of its own to speak of, is an important oil conduit (pipeline) for its neighbors.

Mess with Syria, you mess with its neighbors.

USA is just messing around with too many Nations imo.

Stay home USA - take care of your own.

time to rewatch The Bedford Incident.

War Games was just on but I didn't bother watching it again.

If I were an advisor that Obama might pay attention to (little chance of that), I would suugest we publicly move ALL of our naval assets away from that area and announce that if there are any missles flying around they will be purely defensive of our assets.

They can always be moved back ---- after the debate.

Time to quit waving our penis in other folks faces.

The whole point of testing something is to see whether something is functioning properly and correct what goes wrong.
