Scientists laid off due to budget cuts

It took a few months, but forced federal budget cuts are costing hundreds of science and medical research jobs.
Nearly half of the recipients who get federal science funding say they've recently laid off or will lay off scientists and researchers, because federal grants are tougher to win, according to a survey by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and 15 other scientific societies.
At Arkansas State University, 30 scientists and researchers have lost or will lose jobs by October from federal budget cuts at the defense and education departments that funded research detecting bombs and nerve agents.
At the University of Chicago, 3 laboratories have closed, costing six medical researchers jobs treating cancer, healing wounds and gastro-intestinal problems, due to funding cuts at the National Institutes of Health.

(70,489 posts)... and then blame Obama ad the democrats for the people's pain.
These are not the republicans of Nelson Rockeller, Chuck Percy, Dwight Eisenhower,
or Margaret Chase Smith but anti American thugs who wrap themselves in the flag,
God, freedom, and failed economic policies in order to do the bidding for the rich and to
keep political power even though every day they become more and more of a minority
party.
These bastards know what they are doing, but don't care because they know the American sheeple have short memories.

(24,411 posts)How in the hell am I supposed to encourage my children, who love science, to go into those fields when the money is drying up in those research areas?
This has horrendous repercussions. Brilliant and talented students will find other areas of study (or other countries that aren't run by hillbilly extremists) to practice their craft.
Meanwhile, the USA gets dumber and fewer discoveries/cures and breakthroughs are made.
At least we'll be good at killing innocent men, women and children with bombs.
I love the crazy.

Well, that's what climate scientists do if you listen to Republican experts.
