ST. PETERSBURG | Fri Sep 6, 2013 9:03am EDT
- Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday almost all leaders at the G20 summit in St. Petersburg accepted the need for an operation to be carried out against Syria following a chemical weapons attack there last month.
"Almost all the leaders who have attended the summit are closely following the massacre the Syrian regime carried out on its people and the leaders have expressed that an operation is extremely necessary against Damascus," Erdogan told reporters.

Good to see that the local leaders (congress) seem to be backing away from this one quickly.

Putin press conference
Putin claims more countries at the G20 opposed military intervention in Syria than supported it. He said only the US, France, Saudi Arabia and Turkey backed the use of force against the Assad regime.
Speaking at a press conference at the G20 summit in St Petersburg, Putin said David Cameron also backed military action, but he pointedly reminded reporters that the British parliament had rejected the idea. Putin claimed the public opinion in those countries backing strikes was against such a move.

The EU declared non involvement this morning.
France may also pull out after the vote in their parliament unless Hollande is stupid..

(42,239 posts)aside from which it wasn't Putin who was alleged to have made it. In that respect Huffpo headline is misleading. Other than the fact that Cameron has made UK non involvement perfectly clear I don't really care what he has to say about anything much.
I don't believe Erdagon - he's spinning the situation. You'll probably get a summary from the Guardian at the end of the day.
I have a feeling he refers to 11 of the 20 being in support of an international repsonse. It doesn't folllow that any outside of France can or will be involved.
