Arizona woman released after decades on death row

Source: Associated Press

AP foreign, Friday September 6 2013

BRIAN SKOLOFF

Associated Press= PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona woman who spent more than two decades on death row was released on bond Friday after a judge ruled there's no direct evidence linking her to the death of her young son, other than a purported confession to a detective whose honesty has been questioned.

Debra Milke walked out of the Maricopa County Sheriff's jail after supporters posted $250,000 bond.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned her conviction in March, stating that prosecutors should have disclosed information that cast doubt on the credibility of a since-retired detective who said Milke confessed.

The 49-year-old Milke has not been exonerated, but a judge said she could go free while preparing for a new trial in a case that made her one of Arizona's most reviled inmates.

didn't bother to record it, and who has a lengthy history of lying.

That detective may not testify--the 9th circuit referred the case to the US prosecutor. He may take the fifth.

and I've been following this case since day one.
The cop was a Phoenix detective, which is wholly separate from the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, so I don't think that Joe really gives a shit whether or not she's released pending her re-trial.

Television and media coverage[edit source | editbeta]
Arpaio has, throughout his tenure as Maricopa County Sheriff, sought out media coverage. He has been featured and profiled thousands of times by worldwide news media, and claims to average 200 television appearances per month.[24]
In late 2008 and early 2009, Arpaio came out in Smile...You're Under Arrest!, a three-episode Fox Reality Channel series in which persons with outstanding warrants were tricked into presenting themselves for arrest.[25]
On June 9, 2011, Arpaio was interviewed on Fox News on KSAZ-TV about a song on iTunes called "FUCK Sheriff Joe" by Contraband, describing him on his deathbed battling his own mortality.[26

Thanks for the update, keep them coming.

But you STILL haven't explained why ole Joe would be steamed because she's getting released pending re-trial.
