deBlasio responds to Bloomberg's comments about his 'racist' campaign

Source: NY Magazine

Michael Bloomberg said many interesting things in his three exit interviews with New York's Chris Smith, but the comment that is getting the most attention right now is the mayor's claim that Bill de Blasio is running a "class-warfare and racist" campaign by prominently featuring his black wife and mixed-race children. "I mean he’s making an appeal using his family to gain support. I think it’s pretty obvious to anyone watching what he’s been doing," Bloomberg said. "I do not think he himself is racist. It’s comparable to me pointing out I’m Jewish in attracting the Jewish vote. You tailor messages to your audiences and address issues you think your audience cares about." (His explanation for the "class-warfare" bit is here.) The inflammatory criticism does seem to be an inadvertent gift to de Blasio, who has surged to the front of the polls by marketing himself as the anti-Bloomberg. (Or perhaps Bloomberg has been a left-wing sleeper cell all along.) This afternoon, De Blasio responded to the remarks with his wife, Chirlane McCray, and 18-year-old daughter Chiara standing behind him.

Really tactless thing to say about people like diBlasio and his family.

To coin a phrase, Bloomberg is no "class act."

In @MikeBloomberg's head, it's racist to show your multiracial kids in an ad. Not racist? Stopping and frisking said kids, because melanin.5:03 AM - 7 Sep 2013

WTF is he even getting at? Is he serious? He must have a problem with inter-racial couples, because I thought nothing of his wife.

How long have candidates for public office been showing family portraits in their campaign literature? What is supposed to be so nefarious about Mr. deBlasio introducing the public to Mrs. deBlasio?

Giuliani also the public to his wife. He should get extra credit for remembering to which woman he was married that particular week.
