Michele Bachmann Suggests Muslim Brotherhood To Blame For 9/11, Thanks Egyptian Military For Coup
Source: Huffington Post
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) suggested the Muslim Brotherhood was behind the 9/11 attacks during a press conference in Egypt on Saturday.
"We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed here for the people in Egypt. We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed around the world," Bachmann said. "We stand against this great evil. We are not for them. We remember who caused 9/11 in America. We remember who it was that killed 3,000 brave Americans. We have not forgotten.
The Muslim Brotherhood denounced the attacks shortly after they occurred, with several leaders saying they were "horrified by the events" of September 11.
Bachmann, accompanied by Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Steve King (R-Iowa), thanked the Egyptian military for the coup and crackdowns against the Muslim Brotherhood, which she called the "common enemy" of Egypt and the U.S. The Washington Post reports the video was apparently taken a few hours after meeting with coup leader General Abdel Fatah el-Sissi in Cairo.

Bachmann has said in the past that America may have deserved 9/11 and that the attacks were "God's judgment":
Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn, said that the attacks that took place on September 11, and in Benghazi, were judgments from God.
According to Salon, Bachman said that it was not a secret that the United States will be experiencing the hand of judgement, and that many are concerned that the country may be in a time of decline. Bachman was speaking at a prayer event in D.C.

Does this mean that she and Gomer are officially endorsing the Muslim Brotherhood?

(19,371 posts)It's really that simple. The fundies will vote against anybody who doesn't tow the evangelical line, and vote for any bible thumper, regardless of their ability to actually do the job.

(19,371 posts)on a lot of subjects. I'd blame their pastors, leaders, etc., but it really comes down to critical thinking. If you can't resolve your faith to the realities of modern life and society, you're doomed to being led by people with a twisted agenda.

(53,661 posts)My sister falls under that label now. She really has nothing to complain about financially, yet her focus is on all the 'others' who are 'robbing' her. She preaches Tea Party and sees them as victims persecuted by liberals and by extension, herself.
As a child, she got role models from movies and advertising. Later she found identity with some psuedo-knowledge from science fiction television and fell into Beck's lap that way.
Now the Tea Party is her religion, God is nominal since she never followed scripture nor read the Bible or allowed its tenets to guide her life, but sees Him as the sole property of the right.
And Obama, liberals and Democrats are the Devil. She is mean-spirited and grasping and has many rules for other people to save her tax money. But has been supported on and off by government but it's 'different' when she gets it.
Frankly, I think I'd prefer your sister.

(53,661 posts)the case (a poor one) that she's being targeted for political reasons instead of typical rightwing grifting. The more attention she can get in the media to make her seem like a political figure instead of being a person promoted past their ability to perform any usueful task, she may keep out of prison.

(569 posts)... so long as it's other Muslims. Expression of concern that others who've actually benefitted from the events and kept well clear of any liability for a 'successful' false flag attack, taking public attention away from Enron and empowering the neocons in a rush to war, Bush crying 9/11, 9/11 all the way ... that's just conspiracy theory. Yes, officially it was mostly suicidal Saudis, many of whom had their passports stolen when reporting to still be alive. It had to be Muslims anyhow, a Koran was found in Muhamed Atta's parked car. Bachman's cozying this way with the coupsters in Cairo doesn't make the who's-to-blame case any stronger.
Take another look, people. It's not right to blame the wrong people and ... let the others off the hook.

(35,300 posts)Qutb was an important intellectual figure in the founding of the Brotherhood.
Also of the Taliban.
And AQ likes Qutb. A lot.
But the Ikhwan have changed a bit and don't go with the most extreme interpretations of Qutb.
So Bachmann's, well, being Bachmann. It's sort of the etymological fallacy applied to organizations.
Then there's the reflex "if a Muslim is being accused of being bad, we must protect him and say he's good." At the same time you have to condemn the Ikhwan and justify the coup in Egypt, but you just don't want to be on the same side as Bachmann. It remains true that a lot of Ikhwan folk partied hardy on 9/11 (well, 9/12, given the time difference and the whole starting-the-day-at-sundown business). A defensive reaction was to condemn 9/11. The defense was two pronged--"Islam doesn't countenance this" (party on!) and "Muslims didn't do it." Yeah, it's schizophrenic, but any one group was only likely to perceive one prong.

The individual Muslim cannot escape responsibility for what he does. For those of us who have a religious interpretation of the world as Westerners, that's true even if the person dies in his wrongdoing. No one can just do what he pleases. The use of arbitrary and irresponsible power is almost universally despised in human history.

He did the same thing the Republicans did here, he decided to rally everyone together using the already established organization of religion. The ones who were willing to jump on board were the extremists who wanted to impose their doctrine and replace the law of the land. Just like here.

There is absolutely no evidence that the country is at peace with itself or anyone else.
There is no evidence that it is any more democratic.
For all that has been accomplished, there may as well not have been any coup at all.
