Source: Accuweather
Late Tuesday night, Humberto strengthened to become the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season.
Winds were sustained at 75 mph, classifying Humberto as a Category 1 Hurricane.

(12,977 posts)The dry air interferes with the development of serious thunderstorms. The instability is needed for storms to "spin up" and change from being just a mess of storms to being an organized system.
Both of these may be due to global warming -- I've seen mentions of both a drought in Brazil and warm air in the Arctic which decreases the north-south temperature differential. But it's becoming clear that high water temperatures along aren't going to generate a lot of superstorms.
