NSA shares raw intelligence including Americans' data with Israel
Source: Guardian
The National Security Agency routinely shares raw intelligence data with Israel without first sifting it to remove information about US citizens, a top-secret document provided to the Guardian by whistleblower Edward Snowden reveals.
Details of the intelligence-sharing agreement are laid out in a memorandum of understanding between the NSA and its Israeli counterpart that shows the US government handed over intercepted communications likely to contain phone calls and emails of American citizens. The agreement places no legally binding limits on the use of the data by the Israelis.
The disclosure that the NSA agreed to provide raw intelligence data to a foreign country contrasts with assurances from the Obama administration that there are rigorous safeguards to protect the privacy of US citizens caught in the dragnet. The intelligence community calls this process "minimization", but the memorandum makes clear that the information shared with the Israelis would be in its pre-minimized state.
The deal was reached in principle in March 2009, according to the undated memorandum, which lays out the ground rules for the intelligence sharing.

(127 posts)You should have said, how can we just give Obama the credit for this? Keep it positive or they will think you're some kind of subversive when they read this.

You might think that little misunderstanding 10 years ago was no big deal. But you could find out different if you decide to go to Canada.

(118 posts)This is written directly into the document.
"ISNU also recognizes that NSA has agreements with Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the
United Kingdom that require it to protect information associated with UK. persons, Australian persons,
Canadian persons and New Zealand persons using procedures and safeguards similar to those applied for U.S.
persons. For this reason, in all uses of raw material provided by NSA, ISNU agrees to apply the procedures
outlined in this agreement to persons of these countries."
This is much of an issue than you all are making it out to be. Greenwald is a tool.

(118 posts)I'm not thrilled about what the NSA does but tbh I worry a lot less about what they do than what private companies do. The ultimate irony here is that people don't seem to realize that the companies that the NSA gets this information from don't just throw that info away. I seriously doubt that they don't use it for their own financial gain in some way shape or form.

(57,936 posts)Yet it is giving "secret" information to foreign countries and not even letting us know what is in that information or how it is used or analyzed. That is simply wrong. Is it a big issue? How could I know? I'm not allowed to know what is going on.
This stinks. Because it is "secret" from the American People (although not from Foreign Governments), I cannot judge it.
And now some would criticize those of us who object to this strange interpretation of "democratic" government, that is "government of the people, by the people and for the people."
How do you know this is not as big an issue as we make it out to be? You don't have any more information than we do. And I am not happy to learn that the law provides that our information is to be protected and that in spite of that law the NSA is not protecting it adequately.
I happen to be a supporter of Israel, but I have friends who are not. I do not want them to be spied on for their convictions that oppose Israel any more than I want to be spied on because I support Israel.

(57,936 posts)It is empty legal language trash. Forget the safeguards. The word "intentional" is the proverbial wet noodle. Disputes will be decided through discussion. There is no recourse to the courts.
It's a bigger issue than I thought. What slime they are.

If my government is going to spy on me, they might as well share the spying with the whole world. Totally fine by me. I've got nothing to hide. Unless you're a terrorist, you've got nothing to worry about.

(769 posts)Where is NSA's fucking common sense? It is no secret that Israel are open hostile to America, they has sold our military secrets to nations that aren't our friends, especially China! NSA really believe that Israeli agencies would be willing enough to complied with the rules that required them to destroy the information after they doesn't need it anymore? Fucking wrong. Israel are going to save all of those information on all of Americans and sell it to China, Russia, hell, even South Africa. China can easily using Americans' data to learn who are capable of setting up the resistance movement if China conquers us, learning all of our weakness points so they can use it against us, and learn how we move and how we thinks! NSA are fucking un-patriotic agency and lost all of the fucking un-recoverable common-sense. Since NSA got Cheney's give-a-go-with-the-hard-on to fucking up America, they aren't going to stop until NSA become dissolved for good.
Fuck you, NSA. Just fuck you.
