Florida police chief: George Zimmerman is a Sandy Hook waiting to happen

A series of indiscreet emails by a Florida police chief has revealed his belief that Trayvon Martins killer George Zimmerman is a volatile character who is a Sandy Hook waiting to happen.
Steve Bracknell is the chief of the Lake Mary police department, which is investigating Zimmerman, 29, for allegedly threatening his estranged wife, Shellie, and his father-in-law with a gun on Monday.
In an email exchange with a Lake Mary resident critical of the departments initial decision not to arrest or charge Zimmerman, Bracknell appears to agree with the writers description of Zimmerman, acquitted in July of murdering Martin, an unarmed black teenager, as a ticking time bomb.
Zimmerman is a Sandy Hook, Aurora waiting to happen, the resident, Santiago Rodriguez, told Bracknell in his first email, seeking an explanation for why Lake Mary officers did not charge Zimmerman.
Your reference to Sandy Hook
I agree, Bracknell replied.

(2,749 posts)He's an angry guy and I believe he was an angry guy even before he killed Trayvon, and whether he had a gun or not on his hip, it sounds as if he was making physical movements that intended to make his estranged spouse and her father believe he had a gun on his person. Plus he completely destroyed her iPad by smashing it to bits and then using a pocket knife on it. I don't believe that part is in dispute. That is a violent act, a threat intended to frighten them into believing he would to do something more if they goaded him into it. He showed up there after agreeing to stay away so she could come get her personal things, why did he do that? Most reasonable people not wishing to escalate the plethora of hard feelings that occur with divorce would have done. Of course, if I had been her I would have insisted on asking the police to be present. She must know better than anyone what is going on inside his head so why she didn't get a police escort is beyond me. I guess she thought her father being there was enough. It seems he wanted a confrontation and he got one. He needs a therapist and time out of the limelight to get himself together so that he doesn't become a killer again. Divorce is nasty sometimes, and I'm really glad these two don't have kids (they don't right?), but it's so much worse in this situation because he is such a notorious character who has already proven he is capable of killing an unarmed person for no reason other than the one he made up in his head. I hope someone in his family or a close friend can prevail upon him to get help to deal with his anger and his feelings of impotence that make him feel that he must carry a gun at all times, which he was doing even before his deadly encounter with Trayvon. Clearly his feelings of inadequacy are not new and have been enhanced 100 fold since he killed that kid. Now he thinks everyone wants to kill him as payback and he definitely MUST have a gun at all times (and, apparently, a bodyguard. Who's paying for that when he has put in a claim with the state to cover his legal bills?). Someone needs to convince him that most of the rest of society isn't like him, carrying firearms and looking to murder him because he got off on his killing of Trayvon.

If Providence has any say in it, he'll avoid taking someone with him when he goes.

(2,749 posts)I think it might not be that bad. I think internally he's a frightened little man and doesn't know how to deal with his fear and anger except to lash out. He might actually be salvageable as a human being. I'm not a psychiatrist and wouldn't deign to try and guess what his mental health issues are, but at the very least he must be prevented from killing again and since the legal system chose not to stop him then the mental health system needs to step up and try and see to it he doesn't kill again. He's on the edge here, his infamy, his divorce. He is going to pop again if he doesn't get professional help.

(563 posts)Why is all of this coming out now? If all of these people think this now, then they had to have thought it during the trial. And now they are whining about him being a ticking time bomb? Well guess what? If they had convicted his sorry ass we wouldn't be having these issues now would we? The stupidity of these people is painful, if they had spoke up a while back, GZ would be exactly where he needs to be, in prison.
