GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - The judge in the Guantanamo war crimes court is to decide this week whether to halt pretrial hearings in the September 11 case until next year so technicians can fix computer problems that defense lawyers say are stymieing their work.
Hearings resume on Monday in the slow-moving case against the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four other alleged al Qaeda conspirators who could be executed if convicted of charges that include mass murder, terrorism and hijacking.
At a hearing that ended on August 23, defense lawyers said their emails and work files were vanishing and that prosecutors and defense lawyers had temporarily been given access to each other's files.
Pentagon technicians were scheduled to testify this week about the extent of the problems and how much time and money it would take to fix. Technical advisors have said it would take at least three months, once a contract was signed and money allocated.

Also, how on earth can Khalid Sheikh Mohammed get a fair trial when his testimony was procured after his being water-boarded 183 times??? -- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/20/world/20detain.html?_r=0

(26,284 posts)These people have after all been held for years and both SCOTUS and congress should be ashamed of their actions for letting this charade continue.

(103 posts)concerning the evidence that indicates that the official story of what happened on 9/11 is "less than the whole truth", I'm not too surprised that some in the Pentagon would want to manipulate the outcome of this particular trial.
After all, this WTC core column sure as HELL did not melt itself at a 45 degree angle, and there's no way jet fuel burning almost a quarter mile above it did so either:
I agree 100% !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too many lies, not enough truth.
Too much secrecy, not enough truth.
Too many omissions, not enough truth.
Too many cover ups, not enough truth.
Too many of the guilty living in gilded estates, not enough truth.
Too many of the guilty still operating behind the scenes, not enough truth.
The government of the U.S.; all branches are corrupt and intentionally destructive.
They are non functional when it comes to the needs of 'we the people' and what is best for this country.
The actions of the majority are traitorous.
There is no kind way around these brutal facts.
This has been going on for decades.

(103 posts)not be an issue here? The ensuing wars ( and imprisonment of suspected terrorists ) are a direct result of this event!

(22,651 posts)I agree with you that hate for what Americas military did and insane religious passion brought those planes to us.
But I don't know how to stop the monster the Federal Gov created.
If only the dumb ass airlines locked the damn cockpit doors after hijackings became a problem.

(8,821 posts)They should never be tried by this country. We tortured all of these men repeatedly and over extensive periods of time, for years in fact. Any so-called evidence we obtained from them or their associates is invalidated by those brutal, unlawful and unnecessary excesses on our part.
They should be handed over to the War Crimes Court in the Hague (as should their torturers). We have no right to even hold them any longer, let alone try them for crimes such as they are charged with.
