Multiple deaths in Navy Yard shooting rampage; suspects may be on loose

Washington (CNN) -- Multiple people were killed Monday after a shooter opened fire in a rampage at a Navy yard in the nation's capital, putting government buildings on lockdown and sending police SWAT teams rushing to the scene.

One suspect is dead, but two others may be on the loose, Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

Authorities are looking for a white man and a black man in military-style clothing who could be connected to the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, she said.


"We still don't know all the facts. But we do know that several people have been shot and some have been killed," President Barack Obama said Monday afternoon. "So we are confronting yet another mass shooting. And today it happened on a military installation in our nation's capital."

IF the reports are true that the gunman (at least one of them) entered the building using an employee's ID.

This employee is now being questioned by police, of course, but if the employees there are not aware how serious it is NOT to give their ID to someone else, then something is wrong.

Now they've gotta figure out the why of it all--was it directed at a specific person or persons, or what?

"I think it was all on the fourth floor," Patricia Ward, one of the witnesses, told reporters.

It had to be someone with either their own or stolen credentials:

Ward said that to get into the building, a person has to scan an ID card. She said that may be how the shooters got weapons in.

And they had to come in a side door, I'm thinking, so they know their way around the joint....
