Obama: Iran overtures on nukes a step toward relationship of 'mutual respect'

NEW YORK President Barack Obama said Tuesday that recent overtures from Iran on its nuclear program could start the United States and Iran down a long road towards a different relationship one based on mutual interest and mutual respect.
In an address to the United Nations General Assembly, Obama stressed that the United States is determined not to let Iran develop a nuclear weapon.
But he suggested that two statements an edict from Irans supreme leader against the development of nuclear weapons and a statement from Irans new president that his country will never develop a nuclear weapon represent crucial progress.
We should be able to achieve a resolution that respects the rights of the Iranian people, while giving the world confidence that the Iranian program is peaceful, Obama told world leaders at the meeting.

It will be interesting to see how Netenyahu tries to undermine this effort, since Netenyahu's regime lies heavily on fear mongering of Iran.

President Obama is doing the right thing though it certainly will be a difficult nearly impossible process given the circumstances.

I'm not sure why though, like if everyone dialed back their rhetoric and started talking reasonably, we could actually have some kind of certainty that these folks, even though they don't like each other, wouldn't start WW3 over there.
