Egypt shuts headquarters of Muslim Brotherhood newspaper

(Reuters) - Egyptian authorities have shut down the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice newspaper in Cairo, the latest move aimed at crushing the Islamist movement, the Brotherhood said on Wednesday.
"We the journalists of the Freedom and Justice newspaper condemn the security forces for closing down the headquarters of the newspaper," the Brotherhood said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
Police stormed the building overnight and removed the contents. A source at the Cairo Security Department said the raid followed Monday's court ruling which banned the Brotherhood and ordered its funds seized.
"A court ruling was issued to do it on charges of inciting violence and terrorism in the recent past," a security source said, referring to the operation.

(397 posts)Society has to draw a line on what is acceptable and what is not. Like yelling "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater is illegal in the US, so is telling people to go murder and rape almost everywhere. Egyptians have drawn their line and are fed up with the hate filled, murderous vitriol coming out of those right wing scumbags.

(14,779 posts)The report FROM THE PAPER was to protest PEACEFULLY against the COUP, That is the "incitement of violence" the paper was closed for i.e. opposing the coup. In simple terms if you oppose the coup, you are inciting violence. That includes saying the Coup was unlawful, wrong etc. It also includes supporting people who do PEACEFUL demonstrations against the Coup (For example to support peaceful protest at a Mosque for the protest FORCED the Army to storm the Mosque to put down the protest for it was blocking some traffic).
My favorite story of the "violence" being made by the Moslem Brotherhood is about the storming of the Mosque. When the the Army stormed the Mosque, killing hundreds, the army said it did so after being shot at from the Minaret of the Mosque. When it was commented that it was while known that that Minaret could only be accessed from the OUTSIDE the Mosque i.e. how did people in the Mosque get into the Minaret? The story switched to other incidents of violence being done by the Moslem Brotherhood. I.e. when it became clear the reason for taking the Mosque was a lie, the media went on to other things then ask about why the army stormed that Mosque.
The violence seems to be from the Police NOT the Moslem Brotherhood. Christians have complained of attacks, more the complaints are more of why the Government is NOT protecting them then against the Moslem Brotherhood (And it appears most of these attacks on Christians appear to be the work of Salafists, funded by Saudi Arabia and who support the coup, then the Moslem Brotherhood who oppose the coup).
Sorry, I do NOT see any incitement of violence by this newspaper UNLESS you believe saying the coup was illegal and wrong is an incitement to violence.

When your wants trump principle it's a lost cause. For some, it's a cause lost long ago, and their wants just happen to coincide with others' principles.
During most revolutions, those with actual principles tend to be fellow-travellers while quickly those with wants and no principles, those with the real fire in their bellies, take charge. Eventually those holding to principles back off when things get out of hand and they with their principles are carted off for the guillotine.
