George H.W. Bush witness at Maine same-sex wedding

Source: Associated Press

KENNEBUNKPORT (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush was an official witness at the same-sex wedding of two longtime friends, his spokesman said Wednesday.

Bush and his wife, Barbara Bush, attended the ceremony joining Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen as private citizens and friends on Saturday, spokesman Jim McGrath said.

Thorgalsen posted a photo on her Facebook page showing Bush signing the marriage license as a witness. She captioned the photo: "Getting our marriage license witnessed!"

In the photo, Bush is seated in a wheelchair, a stack of papers on his lap and his left hand poised with a pen. One bright red sock and one bright blue one peek out below the cuffs of his blue slacks.

Mismatched socks- is someone desperate to humanize the Spook King's legacy, or what?

He was one of those moderate, New England style Republicans, and he adopted the hate agenda (anti-gay, anti-choice) in order to get that VP spot on the ticket.

He wasn't true to himself, and that's why he was a one-termer. People can smell inauthenticity a mile away.

Oh, those "little people"--so grateful for the crumbs!

That attitude is insufferable, but it's been handed down through the generations, like bad teeth and a tendency towards alcohol addiction!

and a central role in anti-communist organizations that kept the Cold War toasty for generations.

The Bush-Walker clan made that connection through Harriman-Brown Bros. interests in the Baku oil fields and the coal fields in Silesia in an area what would later be infamous for the synthetic oil plant built at Aushwitz, Poland which was served by the slave labor at the nearby concentration camps.

That's relatively enlightened compared to others in the same party, but he has never exactly been known as anything other than a reasonably intelligent plutocrat and a competent executive. He's a social liberal because that is the convention among most other wealthy Ivy-League educated people.

The inauthenticity is something deeper with him, and goes to a killer instinct, and a lack of that moral "vision-thing" under his plain grey flannel. More than any other American, he's singularly responsible for the outsourcing of US industry to China and the privatization of intelligence. A patriot without a real interest in the welfare of most Americans. A globalist as far as that reinforces the existing social order at home. That thorough conventionality, lack of reflection, and ruthlessness is what made him a natural, easy fit as Director of Central Intelligence.

... along with him being ok with abortion before he was against it in 1980, that these people don't give one rat's ass about social policy. All they care about, and want, is to be in the positions of power to manipulate the money. Unfortunately, their voting base is completely obsessive about the social issues so the Bush/Cheney et al's lie& say they agree with the nutters for votes.

But I see this as "Two sets of laws/rules" in action. There are LOTS of gay Repub congresscritters who have been outed...but notice they don't get a lot of flak from anyone in their group.

They don't really care, but the social control that comes from "family values" is way too useful to them to use on the little people.
