Border agency has use-of-force plan

The Customs and Border Protection agency this week announced several steps it will take in response to criticism of the use of force by its agents and officers patrolling the nations border and ports of entry.
The measures come after three reviews of the use of deadly or excessive force by the agency, which is the largest law enforcement entity in the U.S. with some 60,000 employees including about 21,000 agents in the U.S. Border Patrol.
The plan is already meeting resistance from some of those workers. On Thursday, the union for Border Patrol agents blasted the changes as a knee-jerk reaction that could endanger agents who wold be more hesitant to use force.
The union also said the agency should release all information on use of force incidents to show force was justified, and reveal the criminal histories of those involved in altercations with agents.
