U.S. Senate will reject new House bill to fund government -Reid

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Saturday his Democratic-led chamber was certain to kill legislation moving through the House of Representatives to delay "Obamacare" for one year and repeal a medical device tax that would be attached to a government-funding bill.

"After weeks of futile political games from Republicans, we are still at square one: Republicans must decide whether to pass the Senate's clean CR (continuing resolution to fund the government beyond Sept. 30), or force a Republican government shutdown," Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said in a statement.

The House is attempting to pass legislation on Saturday that Reid warned would be rejected in the Senate.

The corporate media will work overtime to push a false equivalency narrative that Democrats, Reid and Obama are equally to blame for a government shutdown for refusing to "compromise" with Republicans. In so doing, the media will conveniently ignore that Democrats have repeatedly compromised in the past. Check the news stories. Is any mentioned made of the fact that Democrats and President Obama have compromised? Instead, all you will hear are right wing talking points asking why the President and Reid will not compromise, thus giving Republicans a free pass once again.

to inquire whether a government 'shutdown' will stop support payments
for my son, who is a Fulbrighter, in Berlin. He is supposed to get
his first deposits next week--to fund Sept/Oct--in his German
bank account. He has already spent about $1000. of his own money
since the Fulbright program requires that grantees open bank
accounts in the country where they are assigned. In order to
open a German bank account, he had to first go through a residence
registration process (at the police station!) which could only be done
by appointment! So, even though he has been in Germany since
Sept 10--he only got his German bank account opened last week.

He had to pay his first month's rent--and security deposit--from his own
funds since the bank account wasn't yet opened. And he was required
to buy a public transportation 'pass' (several hundred euro) by the university
in order to be registered as a student (where he is doing his research project).

He is going to be SOL--and spending more of his own money for god knows how long--
if the Repubs pull this stunt and it results in those funds not being deposited next week.

the Federal Reserve System is self-financing,

end of the world.
