Cruz: I Didn't Compare Defund Obamacare Skeptics To Nazi Appeasers

Source: Talking Points Memo

"The premise of your question isn't true. I didn't make that comparison," Cruz said when asked by Meet The Press host David Gregory if he regretted the comments. "I went through the centuries where, over and over again, when facing big challenges, Americans have risen to the occasion... At every stage, there were the voices of conventional wisdom that said this can't be done, and every time, Americans have risen to the challenge."

Here's what Cruz said Tuesday during his floor speech, as TPM reported.

"If you go to the 1940s, Nazi Germany," Cruz said. "Look, we saw in Britain, Neville Chamberlain, who told the British people, 'Accept the Nazis. Yes, they'll dominate the continent of Europe but that's not our problem. Let's appease them. Why? Because it can't be done. We can't possibly stand against them.'"

"And in America there were voices that listened to that," he continued. "I suspect those same pundits who say it can't be done, if it had been in the 1940s we would have been listening to them. Then they would have made television. They would have gotten beyond carrier pigeons and beyond letters and they would have been on TV and they would have been saying, 'You cannot defeat the Germans.'"

You know what groups were Nazi sympathizers and appeasers, and willingly sold resources to the fascist Japanese, up until Pearl Harbor?

You got it.

Conservatives!

It was FDR and liberals who put into place the "Lend-Lease" act and other anti-fascist acts.

And to this Brit of Jewish origin, it is SICKENING!

By the way, it's also historically inaccurate; as all this happened in the late 30s, not the 40s. The war in Europe began in 1939, and Chamberlain was replaced by Churchill by the end of that year, so Cruz doesn't even know his basic facts.

Not in Europe. But yup, appeasement was the order of the day... League of Nations condemned Japan's military incursions into China in the early 1930s... Japan exited the League... the Marco Polo Bridge Incident is considered the start of the war in 1937...

It causes brain damage. Cruz also keeps yakking up the phrase that Obamacare has already hurt many Americans. Who is this imbecile talking about? Also in Texas, you have this brain damaged Rep John Culberson comparing fighting Obamacare to fighting the 9/11 attackers on United flight 93.

It has no effect on us Texas Liberals

I suspect the water continent-wide does the same thing as the entire country has brain-damaged republicans. The water must have some kind of memory and is able to discern when it comes across a conservative brain and a Liberal brain.

For that matter, it must be global. Just take a look at what the water is doing to Canadians and Australians...

Cruz is no dummy: Princeton and then Harvard Law, where Dershowitz called him "off-the-charts brilliant" (according to Wikipedia). He knows EXACTLY what he is doing, when he is distorting facts, and he is doing it for a reason, probably his own self-advancement. But he is Fox News populism embodied and is very dangerous as can be seen in the current government shutdown scenario, where he played a key role.
