Government shutdown could hurt New Mexico's labs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The looming government shutdown could hurt New Mexicos government laboratories.
Both Sandia Labs and Los Alamos National Laboratory are in charge of the countrys nuclear weapons stockpile. The labs are responsible for making sure the weapons are reliable, accurate and safe.
If you're shutting down those two labs, you're impacting our national security, said Sen. Tom Udall, a Democrat from New Mexico.
KOAT Action 7 News obtained a memo sent out to staff at the Sandia National Laboratories this week. The memo said the lab will rely on its carryover or unused funds from the past fiscal year to stay open during a government shutdown. Federal program managers cannot work during a shutdown, but the memo asks the rest of the staff to show up to work.
