Supreme Court won't hear appeal by (Maine) gay marriage foes

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear a case in which a group fighting gay marriage in Maine sought to keep its donor list secret.

The National Organization for Marriage lost a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Portland over its refusal to disclose its donors as required under Maine law.

The out-of-state group, which spent $1.9 million on a successful effort to repeal Maine's same-sex marriage law in 2009, appealed the decision to the First Circuit Court of Appeals and lost again.

It appealed that decision to the U.S. Supreme Court which today announced it would not hear the case.
