Romney: Obama's 'dishonesty' on health care puts second term in peril
Source: NBC News
Last years losing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said on Sunday that President Barack Obamas "fundamental dishonesty" on the Affordable Care Act has put in peril the whole foundation of his second term.
Appearing on NBC's Meet the Press, Romney added that what has really undermined the president's credibility in the hearts of the American people is that he went out, as a centerpiece of his campaign and as a centerpiece of Obamacare over the last several years, saying time and time again that fundamental to his plan was the right people would have to keep their insurance plan, and he knew that was not the case....
Hammering that argument again, Romney said Obamas handling of Obamacares promises has undermined the foundation of his second term I think it is rotting it away.
Romney said Massachusetts teaches some important lessons some states are not going to want to follow.

(17,505 posts)Y'see, it so very obvious the GOP has been lying about the ACA so consistently....
.... that they are trying to plant a meme of "See, the Dems lied about it too!" The ol' "well they did it too" ploy.
Not gonna stick.

(4,437 posts)but as in everything he tries to do, the GOP tries to screw up and does. After all...it's all rethug run states that are fighting it...even though they have most that need it.
And companies looking for really top shelf employees are going to give BETTER offers to get and keep them.
It's companies owned by the greedy that are dropping the employee's insurance. (Hope they're making it up to their people in pay. Somehow doubt it. ) Most people will be successful in getting a satisfactory policy that they will be plenty happy with. Probably better than their last. And as in anything new, the program will have to be tweeked for years. Who cares? It's a start.
By the way, some companies are actually making their employees full time, so they CAN give them medical benefits. So there.
The rw knows the ACA will be great. They're scared to death, gasping for air.
We've been waiting for healthcare for 100 years or so. We can wait another month. Woohoo!

(32,017 posts)And President Obama is not running for re-election. Impeachment won't work, so Romney and his pals are just squealing in the wind. Nothing they can do about it now, and they know it.
Just blowing hot air ... that's all they've got left.

(2,983 posts)It's been a while since I read anything about what Romney had to say. Fundamental dishonesty... hmm, you mean like the sort that destroyed your campaign, Mr. Romney? You know... the bit about you referring to so many Americans as takers, waiting for handouts. Not at all like you politicians that spend... what is it, 15, 20, 30 hours a week fundraising? Essentially, begging people for money for political purposes. At a dinner that charged fifty thousand dollars a plate, you had the audacity to rant about OTHER people being "takers". That's kind of ridiculous Sir.
No, this whole system of government is rotting away, and perhaps it's time to start cutting dead wood... like you, Mr. Romney.

There's good reason for his change of position. The Massachusetts plan was supposed to accomplish two things achieve universal health insurance coverage while controlling costs. As Romney wrote in the Wall Street Journal, "Every uninsured citizen in Massachusetts will soon have affordable health insurance and the costs of health care will be reduced." In reality, the plan has done neither.
Perhaps the most publicized aspect of the Massachusetts reform is its mandate that every resident have health insurance, whether provided by an employer or the government or purchased individually. "I like mandates," Romney said during a debate in New Hampshire. "The mandate works." But did it?

(7,402 posts)At my last employer where I retired from the insurance plans were changed 4 times in the 11 years I was there. Annually employees are given an option on level and type of coverage. The coverage can even change mid-year when events like marriage, divorce, birth of child or loss of a loved one occur. This year American just have more options than usual. In about 2% of cases the old coverage no longer is offered so it will be necessary for these people to go on the exchanges for a replacement. In most, but not all cases, the coverage will be better AND the cost will be lower after government subsidies are factored in. Yes, there is more upheaval than occurs in a normal year but that is always the case with major new programs. Next week I will be looking into whether the exchange might be a better option for my 24 year old daughter's insurance as I am pretty sure I can save money going that route -- perhaps as much as $150 a month.

(484 posts)I think President Obama cares less about his legacy than he does about providing leadership. He is doing exactly what we elected him to do. I cannot stand that every day there is a new sound bite to which they expect a reaction. The main stream media has been infiltrated by right wingers and are slowly but surely changing the dialogue. You can see it everywhere. They are jumping all over every glitch in the Affordable Heathcare Act roll out to build negativism for the off year elections and 2014. 60 Minutes used to be a thoughtful news show that would stimulate discussion. Now they are no more than a mouthpiece for the Koch brothers.
AND WHY ARE THEY STILL GIVING THAT ASSHOLE ROMNEY A PLATFORM???

I turned to NBC for news and saw David Gregory talking to Mitt Money. Gregory's big ploy to wooo some dumb fox viewers won't work. What he did do, however, was cause me to turn off NBC.
