Obamacare Site Can Handle 17,000 People an Hour, CMS Says

Source: Bloomberg

By Alex Wayne - Nov 5, 2013
The Obamacare health exchange is seeing improvement and can now register 17,000 customers per hour “with almost no errors,” said Marilyn Tavenner, the administrator responsible for the building of the website.

Fixes include speeding up the web pages so insurance plans are displayed “in just seconds,” instead of minutes, Tavenner, the head of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said in prepared remarks at a Senate committee hearing today. The agency also doubled the number of servers and replaced a “virtual database” with a physical one.

“We are seeing improvements each week, and by the end of November, the experience on the site will be smooth for the vast majority of users,” Tavenner told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Her agency is doing a “series of software upgrades pretty much several times a week” and focusing on “the internal architecture of the site.”

That response wasn’t good enough for some Republicans on the committee, as well as Democrats who actually voted for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Canceled policies, “sticker shock” on the price of new plans and website outages have shaken the faith of potential customers, said Senator Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat.

Considering how much Governor Heineman hates the ACA, I have to wonder if this is a Nebraska problem, or something I did.

Sure it's nice to know the costs and co-pays (although I will never be able to afford the deductible, even on Bronze) .... I would like to know what, exactly, this 'insurance' will do for me. 1 annual dr visit? Pap? Mammogram? Vaccinations? Brain Surgery? It only covers parking at the dr's office?

A clue would be nice.

Target ~ 30,000,000
17,000 users per hour
Assuming 8 hour days.
136,000 per day (272,000 for 16 hour days or 408,000 for 24 hours)

220.58823529411764705882352941176 Days for Target Number (8 hour days)
110.29411764705882352941176470588 Days for Target Number (16 hour days)
73.529411764705882352941176470588 Days for Target Number (24 hour days)

Ignoring “with almost no errors”, I hope they are increasing capacity. It is going to be close in terms of timing.

Please don't give up folks. We need to make this work for next years elections.

but they do intend to keep improving it.

I am sorry for those who are still struggling and still having problems, but this is a huge improvement.

Also it's nice that they are not claiming that the job is done.
