San Diegans Report Bright Mystery Flash in Skies

According to astronomy sources, the Taurids meteor shower is currently active, and likely explains the flashes

By Monica Garske | Wednesday, Nov 6, 2013 | Updated 9:34 PM PST

San Diego residents reported seeing a bright, mysterious flash in the skies Wednesday night visible across the county.

One resident told NBC 7 San Diego he saw a “bright flash” in the sky just before 8 p.m. southeast of downtown San Diego.

Another San Diegan reported seeing a “crazy flash” over the skies east of Ramona, while a Chula Vista resident said he saw a “huge flash of light in the sky,” possibly coming from the San Ysidro area.

Residents in Spring Valley, El Cajon, Lakeside, Vista, Lemon Grove, San Marcos, Poway, Clairemont, National City and other communities also reported the flash.

Huge Crazy Meteor Blows Up Over Western U.S.

An enormous fireball (or alien spaceship) reportedly exploded over the skies of California, Nevada and Arizona around 8 p.m. Pacific time, according to hundreds of eyewitness reports on Twitter. While the top picture seems like a normal, awesome photograph of a meteor streaking through the sky, this other completely unconfirmed ridiculous picture is allegedly from a weather camera on the mountains over Los Angeles. But it comes from a notorious sharer of dubious pictures, so the aliens will probably not take over tonight.

With reports of a very bright something-or-other in the skies from as far north as the Bay Area and as far east as Tucson, everybody who missed the sky show is now regretting all that time they spend inside with the TV and the computer. Look at all the fun you missed:

It was indeed a quite bright fireball. Looked like it was going to end up somewhere in the Pacific.
