Talks Over Iran's Disputed Nuke Program Hit a Snag
Source: ABC News
France raised questions Saturday about whether a proposed deal to temporarily curb Iran's nuclear program went far enough, complicating negotiations with the Iranians and casting doubt on whether an agreement could be reached during the current round of negotiations.
Chances of that appeared to diminish as the day went on.
A Western diplomat in Geneva for the talks told The Associated Press it appeared that a new round of talks would be needed to agree on all points of a startup deal meant to lead to a comprehensive agreement to ensure that Tehran's nuclear work remains peaceful.
He said preparations were being made by both sides for an announcement later in the day of a new meeting within a few weeks. He said earlier that the French were holding out for conditions on the Iranians tougher than those agreed to by the U.S. and France's other negotiating partners, diminishing hopes of a done deal Saturday.
However, the talks in Geneva were still underway, with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, and foreign ministers from Britain, France, Germany and Russia meeting with one another, and some of them with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

(11,841 posts)Now we hear that if Iran gets a nuke, Pakistan will give one to the Saudis. And the other countries in the gulf who are afraid of Iran will ramp up as well.
Israel COULD take care of it themselves, but we cant sell them out either.
And one more thing; THANK YOU for being amicable while kind of disagreeing. I've seen so many blistering comments between posters on DU over the years just because of a difference of opinion. I've been on the receiving end of it many times. Sometimes it feels like I'm back in the 9th grade.

'No deal' at Iran nuclear talks
Talks between world powers and Iran have failed to reach an agreement on Tehran's nuclear programme, diplomats say.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton told a press conference that there had been a lot of "concrete progress but some differences remain".
Earlier the French foreign minister said the three days of negotiations had ended without a deal.
Lady Ashton said talks would continue on 20 November.
