[GA Republican State Sen.] Balfour suspended from office, kicked out of caucus

Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Gov. Nathan Deal suspended state Sen. Don Balfour, R-Snellville, from office Wednesday, and now Republicans in the Senate have come down hard.

Leadership has decided to kick Balfour out of the Senate Republican Caucus, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned. They are also stripping him of all committee leadership positions, although the chamber’s rules prohibit them from denying him from regular committee membership.

Balfour had been chairman of the Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, vice-chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee and an ex-officio member of the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee.

The decision to suspend Balfour from office was recommended by a three-member panel that met for less than an hour earlier Wednesday morning to review Balfour’s case and determine whether the charges against him make him unfit for office.

"Balfour, the Senate’s longest-serving Republican and once one of its most powerful members, is charged with 18 counts of filing false expense claims and theft."

Wow, I thought that was acceptable to Republicans.

Hey, this is my first post. I have been lurking here for more than a year and have found inspiration and, more importantly, a sense of community in beliefs I have held since I was very young.

Peace

Because his "false expense claims" took money from the Republican party.

Stuff like torture, denying people healthcare, starving children, etc. are A-Ok because they don't cost the Repugs themselves money.
