'Treme’ actor Rob Brown hits Macy’s with class action ‘shopping while black’ lawsuit

The African-American actor embarrassed by his near-arrest in Macy's filed a national class-action lawsuit against the retailer over its alleged racial profiling of customers.

Rob Brown, in a 42-page federal lawsuit filed Wednesday, charged that Macy's security "policies and practices have left ... customers of color feeling victimized, humiliated, traumatized."

In a second federal lawsuit against the NYPD, Brown leveled similar charges in a New York class action over the alleged "shop and frisk" approach taken by cops against minority customers.

The NYPD is "continuing to enforce, encourage and sanction policies" against customers at high-end retail stores "merely because of the color of their skin," the 31-page suit charged.

But a large settlement - combined with public embarrassment - might teach them a lesson.

Then he can fire management's sorry asses and hire some people who will institute better store policy.
