Rob Ford's intoxication affected his job: former staff

Source: Toronto Star

Attempting to salvage his mayoralty and his reputation, Rob Ford told council Wednesday that he made “personal” mistakes that did not occur in the council chamber.

He may never have been intoxicated in that particular room at city hall — but his former aides have told police he has been under the influence in the mayor’s office during business hours, and that his apparent substance abuse and questionable conduct have affected his public duties and his publicly funded office in numerous other ways.

The aides’ allegations to police, released on Wednesday, have not been proven in court, and Ford said Thursday that he plans to sue some of them. He denies that he is addicted to alcohol or illegal drugs.

EEEEWWWWWW! This man is the pig of all pigs, and the voters of Toronto should be SO ashamed of ever voting him into office. Lucky for Canada he is not in a position to control their military or foreign policy. The story at the OP link also has links to other stories with even more gross and disgusting detail. With all the times he's driven drunk with his kids in the car, including around their school, and driven drunk with his kids in the car with a convicted crack addict buddy, his kids should be put in foster care.

And yes, I know the US has elected a far greater number of pathetic excuses for human beings to political office. I always have had such a good opinion of Canada and never expected them to elect a separated-at-birth clone of Rush Limbaugh. Ford has gone 100% out of control. One photo at the link below shows him attending a city council meeting wearing a team jersey of the Toronto Argonauts. The team later expressed great dismay that he wore their jersey while uttering profane comments. As he addressed the council, the members turned their backs on him (see photos with article)

Ford then said he never said “I want to eat your pussy” to a former female staffer, an allegation contained in the court document.

“I’m happily married, I have more than enough to eat at home,” he said, drawing gasps from the reporters gathered around his office

I think you meant Marion Barry....

Barry came to national prominence as mayor of the national capital, the first prominent civil-rights activist to become chief executive of a major American city;[2] he gave the presidential nomination speech for Jesse Jackson at the 1984 Democratic National Convention. His celebrity transformed into international notoriety in January 1990, when Barry was videotaped smoking crack cocaine and arrested by FBI officials on drug charges. The arrest and subsequent trial precluded Barry seeking re-election, and Barry served six months in a federal prison. After his release, however, he was elected to the DC city council in 1992 and ultimately returned to the mayoralty in 1994, serving from 1995 to 1999.

My comparison to Limbaugh was triggered by a photo of Ford trying to drink out of a cup. He was holding it in both hands and was so morbidly obese that he could barely bring his arms/hands close enough together over his chest to hold the cup.

Ford is kind of a cult hero, who is played up as a goofy, blunt, but real, guy. Berry was vilified, attacked and ridiculed (rightfully so).

What is the difference here?

Hm...

desperately needs help to get sober and right, not to be laughed at and ridiculed. I would think his family (brother) would jump in here and try to save him. I noted his mug shot when he was younger down here in Florida and he was a very good-looking man. This is sad.

There's an entertaining element to it, but yes, I hope he does get help. If it's kept as a big joke, it's going to end badly as he keeps pushing boundaries.

He has become a sad international joke. His denial with regards to his actions and his insistence on keeping his job give one an ideal of how strong addiction is.

This guy has no chance of breaking his addiction until he admits it's grip on him and decides that he must get some help.
