Kym Worthy to charge homeowner who shot Renisha McBride with 2nd-degree murder

Source: Detroit free Press

A Dearborn Heights man will face a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Renisha McBride, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said during a news conference today. He is set to be arraigned this afternoon.

McBride, 19, was shot in the face Nov. 2 by a 54-year-old man who told police he thought someone was breaking into his home and accidentally fired his 12-gauge shotgun.

Watch a replay of the press conference in the video player above.

Orientation is a function of the mind involving awareness of three dimensions: time, place and person.[1] Problems with orientation lead to disorientation, and can be due to various conditions, from delirium to intoxication. Typically, disorientation is first in time, then in place and finally in person.

The exact cerebral region involved in orientation is uncertain, but lesions of the brain stem and the cerebral hemispheres have been reported to cause disorientation, suggesting that they act together in maintaining awareness and its subfunction of orientation.

It seems the presence of a gun in the hand negates common sense. What went through this gun owner's mind is now allowed in too many cases. 'Accidentally' shot someone in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun?

I like Kym Worthy for what she is doing for Michigan. She's a strong woman who is not going to be sidelined:

Untouched, Thousands Of Rape Kits Await Justice

by NPR Staff
April 21, 2012

In 2009, prosecutors in Detroit discovered more than 11,000 boxes of potential evidence in rape cases left completely unprocessed. Row upon row of what are called "rape kits" remained untouched on shelves in a police evidence room for years. No DNA evidence was extracted; no DNA evidence was used to catch or prosecute the assailants.

Since then, Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy has lead the effort to sort through those 11,000 rape kits and to find the funding to get them processed.

"I don't know if they were just forgotten, I don't know if they were ignored, I don't know if they were deliberately put there," Worthy tells weekends on All Things Considered's Guy Raz, "I don't know any of that. All I know is that they were there and that we had to do something about it."

Worthy arranged for a federal grant of one million dollars, but says that didn't allow her team to do much more than sort the evidence, match them up with police reports, and begin a database. To process all of the kits, Worthy estimates, would cost about $15 million...

More at the link, and an audio interview:

http://www.npr.org/2012/04/21/151113247/untouched-thousands-of-rape-kits-await-justice

If anyone wants to point fingers at Detroit as they do Chicago for crime, they should look no further than the funding issue and lack of caring about the victims. You pay for what you value.

Defunding the government always allows criminals to run loose and strike again and we have passed the point of no return in many locales. Those who want it gone, have no issue with that outcome.

All of those rape kits left alone for years, came from real people who were victimized years ago, with their attackers running free. A rape kit isn't a spur of the moment piece of evidence but part of investigating a crime that has take place.

Defunding government enables rape culture, tells victims there is no justice, and the perps that there is no consequence.

$15M is a lot of money, but how much more is spent by people who decide to buy a lot of guns to protect themselves after they have refused to pay taxes for law and order?

It's a vicious cycle and it's going to be hard sell with those who really do want a libertarian paradise here. They have made a lot of moves to create one. Not looking too good to me.

Great to see a pushback.

so what has "Triple The Legal Limit" got to do with it? Or is there a 'legal limit' for blood alcohol for just existing in Michigan?

What is the 'pot test', anyway? Are those who have watched 'Reefer Madness' allowed to be fearful to the point of violence of someone stoned?

Cuz that is how they work. The defense will paint this woman as a drunk, stoned psychopath trying to do harm to the poor white d0o0od that shot her. And, (this is not that far fetched) the DA, the police etc are already setting up the guys defense in this case.

Someone's gotta bring justice to irresponsible gun owners. A gun is a very serious tool and reckless use should be punished severely.
