Poll: Americans Support Iran Deal By 2-To-1 Margin

Source: TPM

TOM KLUDT – NOVEMBER 27, 2013, 8:46 AM EST

By a 2-to-1 margin, Americans support the recently struck deal to halt Iran's nuclear program, according to an online poll released on Tuesday.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos survey showed a plurality of 44 percent supports the deal brokered between Iran and six world powers while 22 percent said they are opposed.

The interim deal, which was reached on Saturday, calls for Iran to freeze its nuclear program for six months in exchange for relief from sanctions. If the deal is honored, the sides will negotiate a long-term agreement to ensure that Iran does not produce nuclear weapons.

In the event that the deal fails, the poll showed that 49 percent of Americans want the U.S. to increase sanctions while 31 percent want more diplomacy. A mere 20 percent said they want the U.S. to use military force against Iran.

...and all to gain from this action. The balance of power in this equation, pending any outcome, is still overwhelmingly one sided. "All we are saying, is give peace a chance."

Republicans mindlessly oppose Iran nuclear deal
By Dana Milbank, Published: November 25
- Washington Post

Republicans are opposed to President Obama’s deal with the Iranians — whatever it is.

A couple of minutes after 9 p.m. on Saturday, word crossed the news wires that negotiators in Geneva had reached an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. Then, at 9:08 p.m. — before any details of the pact were known — Ari Fleischer delivered his opinion on the agreement, via Twitter.

“The Iran deal and our allies: You can’t spell abandonment without OBAMA,” he wrote.

This is the sort of trenchant judgment Fleischer was known for as chief spokesman for President George W. Bush at the start of the Iraq war. His anagram analysis was so relevant to the topic that it deserves application to his name, too. Turns out you can’t spell “Re: Chief Liars,” “Hi, false crier,” “Hire Sir Fecal” or “I relish farce” without ARI FLEISCHER.
