Chamber Taking on Tea Party in Kentucky Senate Primary
Source: Bloomberg
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is pouring money into a television advertising campaign defending Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, whose primary fight against a Tea Party-backed rival is shaping up as a test of establishment efforts to reclaim the Republican Party.
The business lobby will spend about $180,000 on a 10-day statewide blitz beginning Dec. 2 on behalf of McConnell, a five-term Republican, said a person familiar with the plans who asked not be identified because the ad buy hasnt been announced.
The Chamber, which spent $36 million to influence last years congressional races, is wading into Republican primary fights to back candidates focused on economic issues.
Its first foray into bolstering a pro-business candidate facing a Tea Party candidate came earlier this month in Alabama, where it endorsed former state Senator Bradley Byrne and spent more than $200,000 supporting him in the final days of a Republican primary for a Mobile-area U.S. House seat.

Unfortunately, one of these two groups of turds will win, at least in the primary.

(657 posts)talking about trying to take back the Congress. He said they have a bunch of "business friendly" democrats to run against these guys. That scared the hell out of me, it means we are running chamber approved candidates. I hope he was just talking, but the last thing we need is a shift to the right. These guys think you can only get elected if your with the kochs or the chamber. Ugh

(10,494 posts)The only thing the Chamber cares about, is getting their boys and girls elected, because they know those that do get elected stay dependent on Chamber money to keep their seat. The Chambers Big Corp., members are always assured of access and influence when they want it.
The Chamber realized that those Tea Partiers were ideological zealots who could not be counted on to sell out at the right time when their vote was needed. They have to have politicians that will trade votes for support.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have an axe (double sided) to grind against the Chamber. Years ago when they started labeling certain counties as "Judicial Hell Holes," they decided they would publish courthouse newspapers that would write outrageous, one-sided diatribes against Plaintiff attorneys and their cases. They did not even sell ads for the 1st year, until they realized no one was taking them seriously. Now it is a weekly and online. Www.southeasttexasrecord.com. The opinions page is so full of shit it's not funny. They have run stories of poor doctors leaving the state because of the high cost of malpractice insurance due to us "ambulance chasers." They had timed the story to come out on the same day as jury selection for, SURPRISE, a medical malpractice trial was about to begin. They have done the same for an asbestos victims trial.
The newspaper stand is right outside the door to the Jury Assembly room. The papers are free and online (so no one can see you grab one). They have more papers in more towns, maybe in yours!
