White House to hold moment of silence on Sandy Hook anniversary

Source: PBS

The White House will hold a moment of silence Saturday, a White House official told Politico, on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., that left 28 dead, including 20 children and six staff members.

Politico also reported that Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., scheduled an "educational event on gun safety, purchasing firearms, legal requirements and safety standards" on the same day as the Sandy Hook anniversary. Yoho told Politico that the event's date is not intentional.

"The date was not chosen to coincide with the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook, and my thoughts and prayers go to the victims and families," Yoho said in a statement on Facebook.
