Only four shooters at Kenya mall and they may have escaped alive, says NYPD

Source: NBC

Only four men may have carried out the attack on a Kenyan mall that killed more than 60 civilians in September, and they probably escaped alive, according to an NYPD report made public Tuesday.
The report debunked many of the assertions made by Kenyan authorities, who claimed that as many as 15 attackers were involved, including some who might be foreign nationals, and that they were holding hostages.
More than 60 civilians and six soldiers died in the Sept. 21 assault by terrorists from the al Qaeda-affiliated group al Shabaab on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. After a two-day siege and a series of explosions, Kenyan authorities said they had cleared the mall and killed four attackers.
At a Manhattan press conference Tuesday morning, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said investigators didn’t know “with certainty” how many people were involved, “but we believe there were only four shooters.”

Not looking so good for the Kenyan response, they even shot and killed the arriving SWAT team commander by mistake and seemingly sent the next several days looting the mall.

I don't like and don't trust Kelly. It sounds like another pretext to increase the militarization of the police and instill fear in the public.

I had a million questions back when they built an NYPD office in Israel
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021287017

If the NYPD can afford to send a dozen detectives halfway around the world, I'm thinking their taxpayer-funded budget is too high...

And I hate to be 'that guy', but the NYPD isn't exactly the best organization to be calling out corruption and incompetence in others...

Why should I buy into stories that are not supported by the article? I see nothing that indicates that Kelly or the NYPD are paid consultants.

Why would Kenya approach NYPD, instead of the FBI?

I was throwing that out there as another possibility too. I was just trying to think of reasons why the NYPD would go out there, and it seemed like them offering investigative consulting may be a possibility. Or maybe it's not, I dunno. I was just a thought.

I live in NY and do not like and do not trust the NYPD.
Most people in the country have heard about the Stop and Frisk policy of the NYPD but the problems are much worse than just that.
They issue tickets for the stupidest issues (bicyclists in Central Park; vendors allegedly parked too close to hydrants) yet don't crack down on speeding cars. The NYPD deny that cops have to issue a certain number of tickets but recorded messages show otherwise.

Kelly and his cohorts wouldn't even cooperate with the new mayor-elect.

I can't wait until the fear mongering Kelly leaves.

to Kenya's entire military budget for the year....And why would they bring in consultants who have almost certainly never been to Kenya before?

I see that Obama offered "aid and support", but I'm not convinced the NYPD was one of his first choices to send over...(I also see Israel sent their own people in...So that is almost certainly the missing link)
