Utah nurse accused of nightmarish rape of immobilized patient
Source: rawstory.com
According to the patient, she checked into UBMC for a surgical procedure and was staying overnight to recover. The nurse, who she later identified as Shumway, gave her a dose of medication and then laid her hand on the button for her morphine pump, activating it. She said that she had stopped using the pump earlier in the night because the medication made her feel nauseated.
The nurse reportedly sexually abused her, then left the room, then returned four more times. On his last visit, he brandished a hypodermic syringe at her and said that he could send her into cardiac arrest, she said, and warned her to keep her mouth shut because he knew where she lives.

(23,973 posts)I favor the "Marsellus Wallace" solution, myself.
Still keeps it within the medieval jist of things.
There are monsters that walk among us.
They wear human suits, but are not really even remotely human in any way except appearance.

I also hope the fear doesn't get him off....

(19,288 posts)My boyfriend's 30 year old intellectually impaired, son has full blown AIDS from prison rape.
Prisons contract out the healthcare in prison to private services whose primary objective is profit not treatment or prevention. The hepatitis epidemic on the inside stands to eventuality impact the rest of the population.
I've done a lot of institutional care. My foremost duty was always to protect my clients, residents, and patients from abuse. I think jails and prisons and gitmo or anyplace where people are involuntarily committed, are responsible to protect inmates who can't escape confinement.
Torturing is just wrong. It makes the torturing creature a monster.
Hate me if you must.

(6,896 posts)I am adamantly opposed to the death penalty.
I certainly dont agree with the idea it serves as a disincentive.
But, for rape (let's say, with special circumstances, like under color of authority, serial acts, or things like this particular case, providing the evidence bears out the allegations) not only should the perpetrator face the stiff sentence of castration and hard time, I think that being a possibility would be a genuine deterrent. Something I am more than willing to see tested.
