Activity Increases on Nevada Health Exchange

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada's health insurance exchange is seeing a surge in activity as a deadline draws near for people to buy insurance for coverage that takes effect Jan. 1.

Officials with the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange say the state's online insurance portal, called Nevada Health Link, has had 539,000 unique visitors since it went live Oct. 1. That number includes 80,000 last week alone.

So far 6,629 plans have been selected. That's up from 513 chosen in the first month of operation.

2. The Nevada exchange had as many problems as the federal exchange

The first six weeks were a complete waste of time and effort, so no surprise that they've seen increases. Nevada has also had a tremendous number of Medicaid eligible applicants; not surprising given the dire employment situation here.
