The High Court has overturned Australias first same-sex marriage law, according to a summary published on the High Court website.
The court was due to hand down its findings in the landmark case at 12.15pm, however, a statement announcing the decision was accidentally published on the court's website about 20 minutes before the six judges handed down their findings.

... Dozens of couples who married in a five day window before Thursdays ruling have now had their marriages declared invalid.

(45,984 posts)If this were a 5-4 ruling form SCOTUS, we would have to await the replacing of Robets, Scalia, Thomas and Alito with honest justices.
Otherwise, I quote the great French jurist, Emile Zola: The law is an ass.

(4,261 posts)There are a number of differences to state versus federal law. Not being a lawyer I can't really talk much about it, other than to say it really must suck from a personal perspective to have your marriage annulled by the courts.
