One year after Sandy Hook shooting, hero teacher speaks out about the tragedy

Source: NY Daily News

It has been a year since Kaitlin Roig barricaded herself and 15 first-graders in a bathroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School, hiding from a gunman who would go on to kill 26 people in an 11-minute rampage.

Roig doesn't know if Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old shooter, ever entered her classroom in Newtown, Connecticut, although she could hear gunfire and terrified pleas from the hallway and adjacent first-grade classroom.

"For myself, I am so aware that roles could have so easily been reversed," said Roig, 30, who has since married and now uses the name Roig-DeBellis.

"I remember, in the days after, it was so hard to get out of bed," she said, sitting on a sofa in her Greenwich, Connecticut home. "I just walked around singing Amazing Grace just over and over and over, because it was just so incredibly hard."

.....so here I am with my first post. The last straw was forcing me to join Facebook, because something, something....to create more "civility. Laughable, because the commission they got kicked back had nothing to do with it. I would rather get poked in the eye with a hot poker than join Faceplant.

Anyway, let us all consider this again: how is it that more guns makes Americans safer, but more health care makes it more dangerous?

Been here an hour and have had more welcomes than HP ever gave me....when you go to the dark side you have to be willing to accept that enlightened people will not join the dark force.

I do not accept the proposition that the lack of civility due to anonymity is worse than lack of privacy.

The more corporate sites go the more crap they become. HP, Ebay, Google and You Tube, they all just suck after a while. Here's a good link of whats happened to Ebay in particular. http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/dec/09/seller-beware-listing-ebay

Personally these sites and all the crap TV channels these days prove more than anything that the cream doesn't rise to the top in a capitalist society. The crap does.

This is what the U.S. media teaches us.

Guns make us safer. Healthcare is dangerous.

Corporations make us safer. Unions are dangerous.

Capitalism makes us safer. Socialism is dangerous.

Corporate subsidies make us safer. Corporate taxes are dangerous.

Individual taxes make us safer. Individual subsidies are dangerous.

Exporting jobs makes us safer. Living wages are dangerous.

Praying makes us safer. Non-violent activism is dangerous.

Christians make us safer. Muslims and atheists are dangerous.

Conservatives make us safer. Progressives are dangerous.

War makes us safer. Peace is dangerous.

I'm using all of it every chance I get. Doublespeak is pervasive in a corporatist, fascist state.

Never had much use for The HuffPo, and certainly never had a FB account, so, they have to track me through the NSA I guess.
