Teacher disciplined for 'Santa is white' remark

Source: abc News

Officials at the school in Rio Rancho, about 15 miles north of Albuquerque, announced Friday that the teacher recently was disciplined for his comments to the student, but they declined to say how, KOB-TV reported (http://goo.gl/GYqcJr).

The move came after students at Cleveland High School were told they could come to class dressed as Santa, an elf or a reindeer.

Michael Rougier said his ninth-grade son, Christopher, arrived wearing a Santa hat and beard, and the teacher asked the boy: "Don't you know Santa Clause is white? Why are you wearing that?"

The teacher's name was not released, and attempts by The Associated Press to reach school officials Saturday were unsuccessful.

Michael Rougier said the teacher's comments enraged him.

"There's no room for that in the classroom," he said. "Whether this teacher felt Christopher may have been wearing this out of context, there's no room for it. There's just no room for it."

The incident happened the same week that Fox News Channel's Megyn Kelly said on the air that both Santa Claus and Jesus were white. Her comments drew national attention and prompted a slew of heated comments on blogs and social media sites.

That since Santa Claus is a make believe person, he could be any freaking color you want him to be. Megyn Kelly and this teacher (??) need to get a grip on reality. Who the hell died and left them in charge of deciding what color Santa or Jesus is?

9. Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas of Myra who was a 4th Century Greek Christian bishop of Myra

(now Demre) in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes.[7] He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity. In continental Europe (more precisely the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Germany) he is usually portrayed as a bearded bishop in canonical robes.

You can read up but after the Christianization of Europe and the celebration of Yule blah blah blah now we have Sinterklaas. But basically, the original Saint Nicholas was a Turkish man, aka a "brown" skinned man. The Vatican did a rendering of what he likely looked like (his remains are in Italy) and came up with a picture. It looks like someone on Bush's "axis of evil" checklist. Soooo.....not only was the teacher insensitive in his remarks, he's basically wrong. so there. Big fat F for you teach.

...and while we're at it...Why isn't the word "jolly" ever used to describe anything other than Santa Claus and Rangers?

Didn't he know he was supposed to dress up as "illegal-imigrant" elf? Or maybe a reindeer, since they're brown.

have created an inescapable bubble in which the inhabitants will remain forever licked--disinformed and incapable of logical, critical thought.

Fox has convinced a large percentage of it's audience that anyone who provides information contrary to Fox propaganda is lying. Snopes.com is owned by George Soros they say and is all leftist lies.

I actually read one Foxbot saying that Snopes is obviously lying, evidenced by all the research references they provide. Seriously. The Foxbots are lost to the fact-based universe.

we should bust up the media conglomerates who operate with a license from us to use our airwaves. We need to replace the bought off cronies in the FCC, and while we are at it, the ones in the SEC, Fed, IRS, OSHA, EPA...
We need to go back and separate "News" from "entertainment." No longer should it be legal for news outlets to knowingly lie (Fox News won a court case in Florida a few years ago that said because Fox was "entertainment" it was ok to lie)!

... fire him, don't just slap him on the wrist. Not sure what color St Nicholas' skin was, but I have no doubt that Jesus was dark skinned. What's the big deal? Although I was raised in a bigoted all white small town in the mid-west, I was taught as a child by my Mother that all people were "God's Children," and that all peoples were the same on the inside. The Junior choir (of which I was a member, as my Mother was the Music Director as well as the Missionary Society) sang this song:

"Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in HIs sight.
Jesus loves the little
Children of the world."

Another song I remember was "He's got the whole world in his hands."

Even though I don't attend church regularly anymore, those are precious memories to me. Memories of the my dear Mother and my thankfulness for the way she raised me. It has always been a mystery to me why many people prejudge their fellow human beings on this earth. Prejudging about the economic class, the different-colored, the different-religioned is bigotry.

I wish I could have a few moments alone with that teacher.

... "Don't you know reindeer are quadrupeds? Why are you wearing that?"; those dressed as elves, "Don't you know elves are three feet tall? Why are you wearing that?"

Apart from the racism, this person is not intelligent enough to teach.
