Source: New York Times
One person was killed and at least two were wounded Tuesday afternoon after a gunman began shooting inside a hospital building in Reno, Nev., the police said. The gunman then apparently turned the gun on himself.
Deputy Chief Tom Robinson of the Reno police department said the shooting began about midafternoon at a medical building at Renown Regional Medical Center.
The two wounded people were undergoing treatment, he said at a news conference.

One of the shooting victims was in surgery, Robinson said. Information on the condition of the others wasn't immediately available.

Bring your gun with you when you are having surgery? Arm not just teachers, but hospital staff too? Everybody is a good guy with a gun, until they aren't.

This isn't the first gun-related post you've tried to start an argument in.

(7,638 posts)Your NRA handlers will say it was an isolated event if the potential killer was, white and a legal owner and if not they will blame it on black crime with illegal guns. I would like to propose an alternative. When you have enough guns to arm every man woman child kitten pony and gold fish in America thrice over, why wouldn't gunning people down replace football as the American pastime?

(33,299 posts)when it comes to random shootings, illegally owned guns tend to be used in gang shootings - like the indiscriminate ones in chicago, where a park full of children is raked with gunfire in a dispute over respect or territory.
guns used in amoklauf shootings, like this, are typically legally obtained.
do you have statistical evidence that contradicts this GENERALIZATION?

(33,299 posts)we all go a bit over the speed limit.
let's see if reno hostpital shooter was law abiding.
debate team dropout in arapahoe county was law-abiding until he wasn't - he hadn't owned the gun long enough to not be.
adam lanza was law abiding until he killed his mom, so i suppose that technically, he wasn't law-abiding at the point when he killed all those babies. cold comfort.

(54,770 posts)In the USA buying hit weapons, practicing to shoot people, etc., is considered legal. In fact, for many of these "law-abiding" folks, its a path to manhood. The gun marketers use that by appealing to gun fanciers' baser instincts. Even if this guy stole the gun or bought it in a back alley from a "law-abiding" gun fancier, the gun love made it easier to steal/acquire.
Time to bite the bullet and pass tough laws like Australia did in 1996.

"My husband works for Urology Nevada. Two doctors were shot, one killed instantly, and the other is in surgery. A former patient shot the female doctor first because he was unhappy with his surgery. He shot the other doctor just because he came out of his office to see what the commotion was all about. This is horrible and tragic."
I wish there was something done with the guns in the US, it feels so surreal that the US has this huge gun problem and yet, as usual, nothing is done because people cry that it's their right to own a gun.
