Saudi Arabia Ordered to Face Claims Over Sept. 11 Attacks
Source: Bloomberg
Lawsuits claiming Saudi Arabia aided al-Qaeda and should be held liable for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were revived by a U.S. appeals court.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Manhattan today said a lower-court judge rested on an error of law in rejecting a request to reopen the cases against the countrys government and an affiliated charity.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi High Commission for Relief of Bosnia and Herzegovina won a ruling dismissing them from the lawsuits on the grounds that a foreign government is immune from suit. Subsequently, the appeals court made inconsistent rulings on whether the terrorism claims made in the case fall under sovereign-immunity rule, according to todays opinion.
The lower-court judge should have granted a request to re-open the cases in order to allow the inconsistency to be addressed, the appeals court said.

(46,684 posts)There were one to three million dollar payments to each victim's survivors. Wasn't that payment meant to end litigation? Or was that just limited to the U.S. government?

Those who accepted a payment had to sign an agreement that they would not sure the airlines. I don't know if there were any other restrictions on lawsuits.
Some people refused to accept any payment, and thus gave up no rights to sue.

The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal, based on the Nuremberg Charter, is proceeding to the enforcement phase after officially convicting George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and lawyers of war crimes in a packed court Friday where legal experts heard shocking testimonies of American torture inflicted by United States soldiers such as removing fingernails with pliers, electrocutions and sexual humiliation.

But Saudi Arabia didn't do it alone. It was a false flag operation all the way.

(3,992 posts)...a number of stories have "leaked" out recently that put SA in a bad light. Often this kind of thing is a precursor to a larger scale ramping up of rhetoric -- which often results in direct action (overt and/or covert). And as we all know, certain elements in our government are motivated to stir things up in foreign lands, independent of any perceivable benefit to our national interests.
