Reno man pleads not guilty to supporting terrorist groups

A Reno man pleaded not guilty Friday to federal charges that he supported two terrorist groups seeking an independent Sikh state in India and Pakistan.

Baljit Singh, 39, said through a translator that the charges “are all wrong.”

He also said his true name is Baljit and not Balwinder as once reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Singh is listed as having multiple aliases and prosecution said Friday that there is evidence he has traveled to locations around in the world in the past few years.

He was provided public defender Michael Kennedy and a preliminary trial date was set for 9 a.m. Feb. 11.
